Definitely haven't seen a blogger screen in a while. Not that there should really be that many people who have noticed. Possibly my sister (hi sis) but that is about all I would expect.
Long days lead to short nights. That about sums up the last two months in a nutshell. Sad though. But at least it is finally starting to appear that summer is coming, something that I have been longing for. Something that has teased us here in northern Minnesota more than enough times this spring. Hot days leading to freezing, quite literally, nights. After a long cold winter that is not something you want Mother Nature doing. But now that the days are getting longer in more ways then one I can finally sit outside, watch the sunset, have a cigarette and write a little. Nothing important yet, maybe sometime but I would hate to compete with other notable blogs out there that actually have something to say. So for tonight I will get onto one story....
The past weekend was a long one and not in that wonderful never-ending style. Friday night we started putting together on of those large Lincoln Log type swing sets from Walmart. Started on the slide as directed with little problems and continued onto the stairs/rock (or plastic green shapes) wall. These two small tasks kept us busy till about 12:30 and caffeinated as we were decided to continue the night with a movie on the couch. Of course she fell asleep and I, of course, can not fall asleep while watching either a: a movie I like or b: a movie I have not seen and so far do not dislike. This one by the way was mostly b and closer to the low end of liking but not far enough to fall asleep. But I digress.
So about 2:30 we moved to the bedroom so she could continue sleeping and I might begin which went quickly enough. Early in the morning though I was awoken to the sound of my child playing with some cheap plastic poker chips from a game of Texas Hold em Yahtzee. No big deal, especially since it kept him happy and let me sleep. Soon enough he starting bringing in small handfuls of chips and placing them into my sleeping hand hanging off the edge of the bed. After about 3 trips my hand was full and he definitely was not giving up so I figured I might just as well get up. Upon rolling over and seeing his smiling face I happened to notice his small arms were covered in black marks. Oh shit was the only thing that came to mind as I am sure you can guess.
I jumped up to check the damage, which was pretty decent but I keep reminding myself could have been worse. At least the TV was fine. He had managed to mark up the kitchen table, two chairs, two doors, numerous spots on walls, futon arm rest, coffee table, couple of pillows, couple of blankets, small spot on his rug, several toys and some nice drawings on the floor. Now luckily most of this came clean with a few exceptions like his toys and the coffee table. Most everything that didn't come clean I can live without. Seeing all this did of course cause a small fire inside me, and as well my wife, so to keep him from making things worse we put him back in his crib for a while.
After awhile cleaning up what could be cleaned easily we went outdoors to calm down. After a quick smoke and reminding ourselves he is only 2 and also that I probably did that same thing when I was young we went back inside. Upon entering the hallway where he could see us three little words came out of his mouth (three words I let slip earlier during the whole ordeal). "What the hell?" Three times in a row in just the cutest voice he could muster. I will admit though, I did laugh.
Not really sure if there is a moral or even a point to this, but I thought it was cute.
